In the space below, please justify your placement on the above rubric for BOTH the technical and creative problem-solving standards. Each justification should be at least 4 complete sentences.
1. Technical Skills:
I believe that I deserve a 3 because there are some holes and places where you can see through the paper and also some of the white from the paper is showing as well. But for the most part the portrait reflects me and looks realistic.
2. Creative Problem-solving Skills:
Again I think I deserve a 3 because I created a portrait of me and it looks realistic also you can tell the different values.
Why might the exercise of breaking down a photograph into value shapes help when you are drawing? so that you can see the many different shades of gray and the different shapes of the face. Also so that it looks 3 dimensional and very real.
Negative Space Drawing:
1. Technical Skills Justification:
I believe that I used quality craftsmanship on this project, and used the skills accordingly.
2. Creative Problem-Solving Skills Justification:
I think I used a good approach on this as well, and you can identify my design
Why do artists make thumbnail sketches before starting a formal drawing? In what ways did it affect your work?
It gives you a feel of what you are doing and how you are going to approach the problem, but also so you can do a rough draft of the final copy.
Why does it matter what pattern you choose for your background? How do different patterns affect the "look" of this project? When choosing a background just about any would work but the most bold and spread out pattern would exaggerate the plant figure more then something that was close together and overlapping.

The craft mans ship was worked on slowly and carefully, and the shapes are cut out very neatly and carefully,
2. Creative Problem-Solving Skills Justification:
I approached the problem of positive and negative by making the positive space on all of my designs pop out more then my negative, but have the negative space re-enforce the positive and helping it ketch your eye.
Which of the four designs do you feel is the most successful in terms of using positive and negative space well? Please explain.
I think that I was my free choice. I tried to makes the leaves go off the page to make it draw more attention to the positive space, and not as much to the negative, however the negative space helps bring the positive space closer and seem to pop out at you.
Which one of the four designs do you feel best communicates the assigned Principle of Art? Please explain. I believe that the tension work best communicates the principle of art. This is because it uses the negative and positive space in such a way that the leaves both stand out.
